[Prophecy Talk] A third temple?

Many Christians claim that a third temple Must be built, to fulfil several prophecies which they understand to refer to events associated with the appearance of the Antichrist, and a great tribulation, immediately prior to the second coming.

I am aware of the Jewish organisation based in Jerusalem, (The Temple Mount Faithful Movement) which has long term objectives to liberate the Temple Mount, and rebuild the temple. Architectural plans have been prepared; a priesthood is being trained; garments and temple vessels are being made. These reports have fuelled speculation about the possible building of a THIRD TEMPLE in Jerusalem in the very near future.

But does the Bible support this expectation?

Jesus left the temple and was going away, when his disciples came to point out to him the buildings of the temple. But he answered them, "You see all these, do you not? Truly, I say to you, there will not be left here one stone upon another, that will not be thrown down." (Matt 24:1-2)

The destruction of the SECOND TEMPLE by the Roman army, in AD 70, was in direct fulfilment of this prophecy made by Jesus.

Just as Jesus said, the stones of the temple which the four disciples saw that day, were all thrown down. In fulfilment of the ancient prophecy by Daniel, the Roman soldiers celebrated their victory by erecting their standards in the temple area, and offering sacrifices to them.

As Micah had predicted centuries before, the temple site was ploughed. (Micah 3:12) The "desolation" of the house of God in Jerusalem was complete. (Matt 23:38)

Shortly after the rebellion led by Bar Kochba in AD136, the Emperor Hadrian built a temple to Jupiter on the site. In AD628 a Byzantine Church was built there. Today the current "desolating sacrilege" (abomination of desolation) is the Mosque of Omar - The Dome of the Rock - which has occupied the temple site since AD691.

What are the implications to us as disciples?

Remember; the old Mosaic law has passed away.

When Jesus died there was a great earthquake. "And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom; and the earth shook, and the rocks were split;" (Matt 27:51)

This was the beginning of the end for the Mosaic system of worship. Before that generation came to its end, the Temple was destroyed, and eventually, the nation itself was scattered to the four corners of the earth.

The Epistle to the Hebrews was written to explain to JEWS that their ancient Mosaic ritual, the covenant on which it was based, and the Temple system which supported it, is gone for ever! All of this, we are told, was a mere SHADOW pointing to the reality which came into effect through the sacrifice of Jesus. (Heb 8:5)

The Jerusalem Temple was the old "outer tent" spoken of in Heb 9:8. The Mosaic Covenant was the "first covenant". (Heb 8:7) The Day of Atonement ritual reminded men every year that the blood of animal sacrifices alone, could never grant a permanent cleansing from sin. (Heb 9:7, 9) The veil at the entrance to the Holy of Holies testified to imperfection of the Mosaic system, by erecting a barrier between ordinary men and God as long as the Temple remained standing. (Heb 9:8)

As long as the Temple remained in existence, it was a visible reminder of that old system - an edifice defiled by the impure hearts of the vast majority of its priests and worshippers - a physical and mental barrier for the minds of men addicted to mere outward ritual, without true inner holiness. So it had to go.

What was really needed was a better covenant enacted on better promises (Heb 8:6) with a single once-for-all-time sacrifice, and an eternal redemption. (Heb 9:11-14, 26) That is what Jesus has done for us. With his sacrificial death, that first covenant became obsolete, and was ready to pass away. (Heb 8:13)

That earthquake which tore the veil when Jesus died, was a direct "ACT OF GOD" which demonstrated that a NEW WAY was opened into a new Heavenly Sanctuary. (Heb 9:11) Now we can experience the benefits of the NEW COVENANT, which does not require "temples made with hands". (Acts 17:24) Nor is there any need for further offering for sin. (Heb 10:18) Jesus has done that once and for all time. Under this "better covenant" God promises to write His laws in our hearts and minds, so that we can be his people. (Heb 8:10)

The destruction of the temple in AD70 removed the last physical vestiges of the old system. For nearly 2000 years, the "desolating sacrilege" by pagan temple, Byzantine Church, and Muslim mosque, has remained as a physical barrier to all attempts to re-establish the Old Mosaic System.

Brethren, I earnestly believeThis is God's continuing silent witness to the replacement of the old system with the new.

If only the Jews could see it. Alas ..... for most, memories of that obsolete system still form a mental barrier which must be removed before they can recognise their Messiah.

Blindness still prevails. (Rom 11:7-10 & 2 Cor 3:14)

A new temple will not help that situation! Think about it.

Jews do not need a NEW TEMPLE. Instead they need the NEW COVENANT, under which they themselves would be numbered amongst the "living stones" from which the REAL temple is constructed. But to experience that, they would first need the veil removed from their eyes, until they cease stumbling over "the stone that makes men stumble". (Romans 9:33)

Perhaps that is encompassed in Paul's oblique reference to what some see as a possible "national revival" of Jewish Christianity, prior to the second coming? (Romans 11:15)

Can the SHADOW be reinstated? Is that really consistant with what God by His spirit is revealing to us brethren?

Myself, I sincerely doubt it. That Old Mosaic Ritual, the covenant which established it, and the Temple system which supported it, is gone for ever!

I believe that the third temple is already under construction!

Look at the message of Jesus to the Samaritain woman;

"The hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father ..... the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, ..... God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.'" (John 4:21-24)

Listen to Peter talking to us about a new temple with living stones and a royal priesthood;

"Come to him, to that living stone, rejected by men but in God's sight chosen and precious; and like living stones be yourselves built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ ..... But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people, that you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light. (1 Pet :2:4- 6, 9-10)

Listen to our brother Paul speaking to the Corinthians;

"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body."
(1 Cor 6:19-20)

Look at the token of God's presence in the new temple;

At the dedication of Solomon's Temple, God gave a temporary visible token of His presence. The Glory of God, was so powerfully present that the priests could not stand to serve. (1 Kings 8:10-11)

Today, we look for a different token of the presence of God. When God takes up residence in us, and the Holy Spirit dwells within, there will be real and unmistakable FRUIT of the presence of God in His temple. And it won't be temporary! "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires." (Gal 5:22-23)

In such a Temple, God's works will be done! From such a Temple, God's words will be spoken! And Jesus will be glorified by that!

There is no escaping Paul's next conclusion about The Temple Of God;

"Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, and make holiness perfect in the fear of God." (2 Cor 7:1)

Are we still having trouble understanding the symbolic cleansing?

Jam 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

If, prior to the second coming, there is ever a third temple permitted to be built in Jerusalem ..... if Mosaic sacrifices are ever permitted to be restored in such a Temple, then God's testimony to the Jews that Jesus is the only way to God [John 14:6, Acts 4:12] Will be rendered void.

Given the strong ambition of religious Jews, we should certainly concede the possibility that Jewish plans to rebuild a Temple, might get to the point of COMMENCEMENT of construction, and perhaps even near completion. That has already happened once before, in the fourth century, under the Roman Emperor Julian. But that venture was a notable failure.

It would have restored the obsolete Jewish system of worship, which God destroyed in AD70. The Temple and its Mosaic sacrificial system has been replaced for ever, by a better one instituted by the Jewish Messiah. For precisely the same reasons, it seems inevitable that any similar attempt in our own time would be doomed to the same failure.

However if such a project was commenced, it seems likely that it would trigger a Holy War with the Muslim nations. It might even precipitate Armageddon! After all the temple Mount is the THIRD HOLIEST Muslim site. That would certainly seem to fit well with other end time prophecies which include Arab nations amongst those making war against Israel. Just go and have a look at some Islamic sites to see what they say about it. I've been doing just that.

But will the Jews actually get to complete a building, and restart Temple Services?

1. The prophecy of Ezekiel speaks of the future material Temple.
2. This Temple is significantly different from the First and Second Temples.
3. According to Ezekiel's prophecy, the Third Temple should not be built in Jerusalem, a new place for the Temple is determined on the basis of the prophecy of Ezekiel.
4. Without the construction of Ezekiel's Temple, there will be neither the Rapture of the Church, nor the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, nor the salvation of Israel and the Church.
5. This Messianic Temple can only be built by those who believe in Jesus Christ.
6. In the Third Temple there will be no Antichrist.
7. It is obvious that the majority of participants in Christian denominations will be opponents of this Temple, similarly as most Jews were opponents of Jesus Christ in the days of his First Coming. The consequences of this are obvious.

Why do I think so? I read the prophecy of Ezekiel.

Hello Andrew,

I appreciate your detailed response to this topic, however, I have a question. You said the majority of Christian denominations would oppose the third temple. Do you mean that many denominations will not truly understand Gods word in the same way that Jesus was misunderstood and rejected in days past?

First, thank you for creating an account and joining us on this forum. If you would, I am wondering how you interpret the following verse about the temple of God:

Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. 2 Thessalonians 2:4

Do you not believe that this man fits the description of the Antichrist?

Hello Jim,

Exactly. Denominations can not enter the Eastern gates of this Temple. God has another classification for believers, not according to denominations. There is the Ephesian church - these are those who have come out of denominations, because denominations violate the commandment of unity in Jesus Christ. The apostles did not create denominations, the people who created the denominations are not apostles. There is the Smyrna Church - this is the part of Christians and Messianic Jews who will build Ezekiel's Temple. There is a Pergamon church - these are rich Christians and Christian politicians, their turn of awakening comes after the first two. There is a powerful Thyatira Church, the only church in which God sees love. But in the powerful flow of the Spirit of these Christians, there is a greater share of the false prophecy of Jezebel. There is a Sardis church, these people know the Scripture well. There is a Philadelphia church - these are those that will enter the Temple through the Eastern Gate from 1 to 10 Tishrei, and the whole world will see them: they are messengers of God and Christ. When the Eastern Gate closes, it turns out that they are equal to God, like Jesus Christ. They will be worshiped by the Jews. And there is the Laodicean church: painted eggs, Easter bunnies and Christmas trees and puddings. People who love Christian traditions. However, Jesus Christ knocks on the door and to such people.

But before these seven become one people, the Temple must be built, the saints from the nations must gather, the Jews must receive the saints and become one people with the saints.

And there are no denominations in this picture. Oh yeah:

And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of names of people seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven. (Revelation 11:13)

There in the Greek text is written this way: "names of people". Because it speaks of denominations. 7000 denominations. And these 7000 are good denominations. The bad part of religion, "Babylon," - it will end only with the seventh vials of the wrath of God.

Thanks thedrumchannell,

What can I say about Antichrist?

First, in the material temple, a man-antichrist can not sit. Because this is not provided for by the structure of the First, the Second, or the Third (Ezekiel's) Temple. There is used the word "naos" (Temple, Sanctuary). This word means the Temple itself, and not the rest of the building of the temple complex. A person can not sit in the Most Holy Place. This can not be approved not only by Christians, but also by orthodox Jews.

When the apostle Paul wrote that believers in Jesus Christ are a temple, he also used the word "naos". Therefore it is quite obvious that the devil wants to take possession not of the Jewish material Temple, where if he had sat in the body of some man, he would immediately be exposed by the whole Christian religion from the Sunday school student up to the Pope. The devil wants to own a temple of human hearts, in which he would be in place of Jesus Christ. Therefore, in 2 Thessalonians it is said that after the Third Temple is built and the saints of the nations enter this Temple through the Eastern Gate, the unity of the saints will be achieved. And this unity of the saints, which appeared before the whole world, will reveal the opposite point: there will be a leader at the head of all denominations who rejected this unity with the saints in the Temple.

There in 2 Thessalonians 2: 7 in general a wrong translation. There the word "ginomai", the same root that genesis - to be born, to appear.

For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains so until he is born out of the midst. - I so translated.

Not the devil begins the game, and we. We build the Temple, "the elected from the four winds" gather in the Temple, and thanks to the emerging unity, the devil on the opposite side becomes visible.

I understand what you are saying about the denominations so thank you for clarifying your position. I have always wondered how this will work and realize that Jesus and truth are simply that; truth is not man made and so denominations can not all claim to teach truth. There are no perfect denominations, so therefore we must become part of something bigger that isn't man made or a product of this world. Jesus is that answer, so we are disciples of Jesus Christ, our God and savior of the world.

You said, the Jews must receive the saints and become one people with the saints. This is also something I think about regarding the end times. Do you believe that the Jews and Christ followers will become one faith? How much does the the Temple Mount Faithful movement play a part in this oneness?

Yes, Jim,

Christians and Jews should become one people. In many cases, when reading the Bible, when reading the books of the prophets, we can mentally replace the word "Ephraim" with the word "Christians." We know that the tribes of the Northern Kingdom went to Assyrian captivity in 722 or 721 BC. They never returned from this captivity. They are called the "lost tribes of Israel." However, these tribes must return, according to the prophets.

And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth. (Isaiah 49: 6)

And the prophecy of Ezekiel draws us a colorful picture:

Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and [for] all the house of Israel his companions:
And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand.

(Ezekiel 37:16-17)

Say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which [is] in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his fellows, and will put them with him, [even] with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in mine hand.
(Ezekiel 37:19)

It is very important to note here that it is not the stick of Judah that will be attached to the stick of Ephraim, but vice versa, the stick of Ephraim will be attached to the stick of Judah. This means that it is not Jews who join the denominations of Christianity, but on the contrary, the faithful remnant of Christians will join the Jews. Christians join the Jews in the material world, and Jews join the Christians in the spiritual world, taking from the Christians the Spirit of life that was lost by them after the rejection of Jesus Christ.

And all this should happen after the Temple is built in accordance with the prophecy of Ezekiel.

Unfortunately, today no one is going to build the Temple in accordance with the prophecy of Ezekiel. The project that the Jews would like to implement on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem does not correspond to Ezekiel's prophecy, and obviously will never be realized for political reasons. The Temple that is described in the prophecy of Ezekiel is the Messianic Temple. Only those who believe in Jesus Christ can build such a Temple. This Temple, according to the prophecy of Ezekiel, must be built not in the place of the former temples in Jerusalem, but in another place, which is precisely determined by the prophecy of Ezekiel. This is a huge temple complex, located on a manor measuring 1440x1440 meters. There are refectory halls and kitchens for cooking kebab from the meat of peaceful sacrifices. This Temple embodies the "marriage feast," the marriage of the Church and God, and the birth of a new Israel, who will reign as the new incarnation of Jesus Christ.

For many years I was engaged in the prophecy of Ezekiel, creating the architectural project of the Third Temple. And I can compare what I managed to do with other projects, pictures of which can be found in Google. And I see that only my project can be considered appropriate to the prophecy of Ezekiel.

Unfortunately, I'm alone today. I am not in communion with any community, neither Jewish nor Christian. By its nature, I can not be an organizer, and this is probably very good: why does God need another denomination other than those that are already too many?

So today I finished work on the project, I published a 3D model of the Third Temple, and I just wait for what will happen next. If God wills, the process will move on.

Hi Andrew,

I would be very curious to see what you have been working on and how you became involved in the first place. Is there anything you can share about your project and how you got involved?

Hi thedrumchannell,

I became interested in the Temple, described in the prophecy of Ezekiel, in the late 90s. This Temple was completely incompatible with my ideas about the future Judgment and the Kingdom of God. I did not understand why people build large buildings for churches, when it is much more convenient to gather at home, as it was at the very beginning of the Church. I with my wife and our children constantly performed the Eucharist in our home church. I did not consider myself a member of any denomination, although I was baptized by the Baptists, and in the home church we accepted any Christians, not paying attention to their confessional affiliation. Therefore, the Jewish Temple in Ezekiel's prophecy made me puzzled.

Nevertheless, gradually we realized the role of this Temple in the events of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. It was in the early 2000s. I secretly hoped that someone had already drawn this Temple and already somewhere there are Messianic Jews who will build this Temple. I thought that this Temple would be built by September 2008, because according to my calculations, it was in that year that 70 Israel's jovel (jubilee year) came, from the moment of entering the Land of the Covenant, led by Joshua. I was disappointed: the Temple was not built, in 1 Tishrei (September 29) there was only one God's sign: the Dow Jones index fell by 777 points, it was his historical record.

In 2008, we had access to the Internet, I came to the Christian forum and saw that no one understands the prophecy of Ezekiel about the Temple. Moreover, we realized that no one in the world knows that this Temple should be built not in the place of the previous Temple, but in a new place, in the Judean Desert. In the 90s, we searched for the location of the Temple on the map, which is attached at the end of the Bible. To do this, we cut out a rectangle from paper with the dimensions indicated in the prophecy, in the scale of the map. Moving this rectangle on the map, you can find a place on which it fits into the contours of Israel, from the Mediterranean to the Jordan. It turned out that this place is located between Ein Gedi and Hebron.

In the 90s we did not have the Internet, so I wrote ordinary letters to different Christian and messianic organizations, but it seems that no one understood us. When I had a computer and access to the Internet, I was able to clarify the location of the Temple. It turned out that there really is a high mountain on that place, a beautiful, regular shape, and the center of the rectangle where the Temple should be was on the southern slope of this mountain, as it should be in accordance with the prophecy of Ezekiel.

Moreover, in the photograph of the slope of this mountain, which I managed to find on the Internet, there was a heap of stones resembling the ruins of the altar. I looked at this photo for a long time. Maybe a year. And we realized: it must be the ruins of the altar of Abraham, Jehovah-jireh in the land of Moriah!

"The Land of Moria" and "Mount Moria" are two different names, these are two different places! Abraham could not pass for two days 86 km in the mountains. If King David knew that the Angel had shown him "the land of Moriah" or "Jehovah-jireh," then why did he call this place the threshingplace of Araunah the Jebusite? And how could Abraham decide to make a human sacrifice in the sight of the inhabitants of the city that was there?

After that, I tried to imagine myself in the place of Abraham. Where did Abraham have to put the remains of the sacrifice? Where did he have to put his knife? He could not burn the remains of the sacrifice: the fire that burned on the altar was sacred, and Abraham had no matches, it was not as easy to obtain fire at that time: he brought a fire with him and this fire was already used. The remains of the ram had to be buried in the ground so that they would not be eaten by the beasts.

The second question, which Abraham had to solve, is what to do with the knife? First, this knife now became a shrine and could no longer be used for everyday needs. Secondly, this knife now became terrible for Abraham: he nearly killed his son with this knife. If the remains of the ram had just to be buried in the ground, then the knife had to be broken so that it could no longer be used by anyone.

So, Abraham could dig a hole in the hard ground of the Judean Desert, using this knife, break this knife, drop the knife to the bottom of this hole, and throw bones, horns and hooves of the ram, wrapped in skin. And from above he had to lay a large stone.

Oh, we realized that we know the signs, how can we find the wreckage of the bronze knife of Abraham! But that is not all.

If the Lord God saw everything beforehand. He saw Abraham and his sacrifice. He saw Ezekiel and gave him this prophecy. The Lord God saw the future Temple. And the Lord knew that according to the laws of Israel, before the beginning of any construction, the place should be surveyed by archaeologists. And archaeologists will find fragments of a bronze knife of the Late Bronze Age, they will find the fossilized ram's horns, 4050 years old (radiocarbon analysis). And everyone will understand that this is the knife of Abraham from the great Bible!

This place can become a place of pilgrimage and a place of worship. This can not be tolerated! You can not worship the remains of sacrifice.

Therefore, God could show Abraham such a place for a pit, where ordinary people can not reach. A suitable place is in the courtyard of the future Temple, about 120 meters to the west and 26 meters to the south of the center of the altar. It is at this place will be the remains of sacrifices and ashes from the altar.

But this is all a theory that I can not test, because I can not come to Israel. And I have no right to conduct excavations, only an Israeli archaeologist can do this.

As for the 3D model of Ezekiel's Temple, we began to create it in 2010, and finished only this year. Now I'm finishing a small film on my laptop, which shows the current version of the architectural solution of the Third Temple. I do not speak English, so the film will be dumb. I'll post it on Youtube as soon as it's ready.

The former versions of Ezekiel's Temple you can see on my channel on Youtube. When I started creating the current version of the Third Temple, I started blogging, where I wrote down what I did.
