World War III Timeline

This timeline lists events related to the hypothetical third worldwide military conflict subsequent to World War I & II.

World War I Armistice

November 11, 1918 - Germany accepts the armistice (cease-fire), effectively ending World War I. The armistice ended fighting on land, sea and air in World War I between the Allies of World War I and their opponent, Germany at Compi├Ęgne, France.

Treaty of Versailles

June 28, 1919 - The armistice ending World War I put the guilt of the war on Germany, and inflicted massive economic, military, geographic, and emotional damage on Germany that would be exploited by Adolf Hitler to convince the German people to follow him.

Adolf Hitler Takes Power in Germany

1933 - Hitler is named chancellor of Germany. He then suspends the constitution and rules as dictator.

Invasion of The Soviet Union

June 22, 1941 - Under the code name Operation "Barbarossa," Nazi Germany invaded the Soviet Union with aid from Italy, Hungary and Romania, in the largest German military operation of World War II.

Attack on Pearl Harbor

December 7, 1941 - The Japanese surprise attack American forces at Pearl Harbor, the Philippines, Wake Island; British forces in Hong Kong, Malaya; French forces in Indochina; and Dutch forces in the Dutch East Indies, or what is now Indonesia. The attack precipitated the entry of the United States into World War II.
